Hardiman Hotel Weddings
“A gem of a day” is how I felt after covering Stephanie and John’s Hardiman Hotel Wedding!
Winter in Galway is sometimes bleak, wet and windy and in general not conducive to good outdoor wedding photography. December 16th was the opposite of that….chilly yes, but brilliant winter sunshine, and more importantly a bride and groom who were superb to be around…positively enjoying and absorbing as much of their wedding and being very approachable…all the ingredients required for a good days work!
Wedding morning in the Hardiman Hotel
Stephanie’s preparations took place in The Hardiman, also their wedding location. Really can’t say enough positive things about this venue. I’ve often worked with wedding suppliers who are excellent at what they do…but they work for themselves and sometimes selfishly so which can be a hindrance to other supplies on wedding day.
The Hardiman Hotel is the complete opposite…totally invested in the requirements of their bride and groom while doing their utmost to ensure other suppliers are in the best position to do same. It’s for this reason I love the Hardiman, but also for the wondrous photo locations that are close to the hotel, but also what the premises offers in case the weather was troublesome. The added bonus is Paula and Margaret…two troopers that personify the “team” that I’ve mentioned earlier.
Wedding Ceremony St Mary’s Church The Claddagh
It was hard not for Stephanie not to feel positive on wedding morning….a beautiful view out over a sun drenched Docks and Galway Bay being her back drop while hair and make up was being looked after. The upbeat attitude of everyone that morning was a good start to the day and was carried on when I arrived at the Claddagh Church where John and the lads were also in vibrant and jovial form. The Claddagh Church is a lovely location, and I’m in love with the views that it offers of both the “Corrib River” and “Old Galway” on it’s doorstep…probably my busiest church location for the last three or four years! Also lovely to listen to the excellent Orla Tighe providing the beautiful music for the ceremony…another little bonus!!
Wedding Reception The Hardiman Hotel
After the ceremony, we used the church for the family portraits before availing of the nature that I mentioned above for some Bridal Portraits. The very short journey back to The Hardiman for the warm welcome from Paula and Margaret…and indeed some hydration for the bridal party!! I loved the work that John put into the table plan for the wedding…he personally inscribed guests names onto wooden logs which were presented at the entrance to the function room…looked pretty awesome!
Photoshoot in the Christmas Market Eyre Square
Stephanie and John were able to spend a considerable amount of time with their wedding guests prior to the meal as a result of not having far to travel from the church, but also because they had a 1pm ceremony which means they were never on the back foot. I loved the fact that when the bell was rung for the meal, they were ready to avail of the few free minutes we had before they were called in for the meal.
I had met with Stephanie and John a couple of days prior to the wedding, and we discussed how they day would pan out and had mentioned that we could avail of the back drop of the Christmas Market during the bell ringing period. I loved the way that they hadn’t forgotten about this and I didn’t have to try and cajole them into strolling over to Eyre Square…they were ready and up for it….which is a pretty good thing from my point of view…a very willing couple. Muchos Gracias too to Paula Feeney (Wedding Co-Ordinator) for helping us out during our brief shoot…she tended to the beautiful Stephanie and her dress as well as being a lighting assistant for a couple of shots, re-affirming what I mentioned earlier about the Hotel being a true Team Player!
After the meal, we had the excellent Raindance who had the floor hopping. A superb wedding band that are always in great form and seem to find it pretty easy to build up a rapport with wedding guests and tap into their musical wants pretty quickly…..it really was a super way to finish of an extremely enjoyable
Stephanie and John, thank you both so much for being truly a super couple to be around…totally invested in making the most from your wedding day which made you a pleasure to work with. I hope your happy with your wedding photos and please God we’ll cross paths again sometime in the future!!
