Claire & Tomás' wedding in the Lodge At Ashford, Cong Mayo
Estimated reading time: 03 minutes
With weddings being few and far between this year as a result of Covid 19, it was exciting to be out and shooting again for Claire & Tomás’ wedding in the Lodge At Ashford.
A Winter Covid Wedding….and despite the weather being pretty terrible the few days before Claire & Tomás’ wedding….and indeed wet on wedding morning…we were very luckily that it turned out the finest and allowed us to work outdoors on their big day….brilliant!!
Wedding Morning in Caherlistrane Co Galway
John Murphy of Avalon Video was looking after the Video side of things on wedding day and we had some “Drone Wars” outside when we arrived! John was getting some aerial Video footage while I was grabbing a few stills ….plenty of buzzing going on between the two Mavics!
Claire’s Home House is beautiful….fair play to Rita and Michael for it’s presentation! It’s possibly the most festively decorated home I’ve ever been in….and the outside was on a par with the inside…beautiful decorations and landscaping!
T’was a treat to cross paths with Natalie O Brien and Triona Lyons…two of the finest hair and make up artists you’ll come across and indeed whose faces I have missed seen due to the year that we’ve experienced with Covid. The girls are excellent at their job and they had Claire and her bridesmaids Maeve, Olivia and Laura in great form as well as being ready in plenty of time on wedding morning. I’ve mentioned it previously, when things run late on wedding morning, it can bring on a small bit of stress for a bride as a result of being on the back foot so to speak…but not today!!
Wedding Ceremony Caherlistrane Co Galway
Arriving at the church, Tomás showed zero signs of nerves…his groomsmen Jimmy, Cormac and Anthony were keeping matters very jovial! The milder weather allowed us to run off some shots of the lads before the punctual Claire arrived. Declan from Costelloes of Corofin was Claire’s driver and another true team player on wedding days…and a mighty man for looking after her bouquet!!
The ceremony was lovely and Caherlistrane church looked both cozy and festive. After the ceremony, we used the warmth of the church for a handful of photos before we headed back to Cong with the bridal party for some outdoor images. I love shooting in Cong….such a majestic piece of nature and loads of photo opportunities. Although it was dry, it was cold…and I’m grateful to the bridesmaids in particular for the way they applied themselves to the photo shoot. Up for fun, buzzing with excitement for their sister and friend, and simply got on with the job in such a positive manner…thanks girls, it’s not always like that during winter weddings. The photos will show that the lads were hydrating while we did some of the ladies photos….but the equally applied themselves well when the need was required….it was a good shoot among good people.
Wedding Photos Ashford Castle
As is the case with weddings in the Lodge At Ashford, the bride and groom have use of the grounds of Ashford Castle and that’s where John Murphy and I headed to next with Claire & Tomás. They were truly a dream to work with and indeed be around on wedding day. I’m not sure of it’s because of the smaller gatherings at Covid weddings, or simply because Claire and Tomás were “in a good place” on their wedding day…but they were so relaxed and approachable and a treat to be around. I’ve noticed that the smaller Covid weddings are more intimate events and I find them utterly enjoyable…and signs were on the bride and groom that they seemed to be feeling the same. It was a treat to be around them and they were entirely deserving of the milder weather that we got as they day went on!
Wedding Reception in the Lodge At Ashford
Our final port of call was the Lodge At Ashford! I’m very lucky to have this venue so close to my home and I always enjoy working there….the landscape is truly stunning! We welcomed the warmth of the Lodge and Claire and Tomás mingled with their guests. We grabbed some family portraits after a while and indeed Claire and Tomás were good enough to come outside for another very brief shoot to show off the sunset on their wedding day.
Thanks so much Claire & Tomás for being troopers to work with. I really enjoyed your wedding day as well as the company of your family and friends. The day was exceptionally intimate and relaxed and I think your guests feed of the positive and fun attitude that you both displayed!
I wish you both the very besy for the future and please God we’ll cross paths in the near future again….until then, mind yourselves!!
