Sarah & Fergal’s wedding in Lackagh Co Galway followed by a wedding reception in the Abbey Hotel Roscommon

The first time I met Sarah was at her cousin’s wedding almost 18 months ago. She was responsible for the church music for same and I’m sure Louise (her cousin and bride) was overwhelmed with her performance…she was excellent. Not long after that, Sarah got engaged to Fergal and I was delighted that she touched base with me with regards to her wedding photography.

Wedding Morning in Lackagh Co Galway.

It’s handy that Sarah lives less than 2 minutes from the church in Lackagh….no excuses for being late! A happy house on wedding morning with a lot of familiar faces. John Murphy of Avalon Video was looking after the video (also did Louise’s wedding) and it was mighty to hook up with Helga Kampff who was looking after all things hair. Love the hugs and the chin wagging anytime I bump into her… a grounded person whose company I thoroughly enjoy! Katie Connell was responsible for all things make up and fair play to her and Helga for having everybody in a relaxed state with everything done in plenty of time…such a great start to any wedding day!

Bridesmaids Orla, Miriam, Christina and Claire were all in might spirits and really adding to the good vibes on wedding morning. Sarah was a lady too…really felt relaxed in her company and nothing phased this grounded lovely lady! The banter flowed with her bridesmaids and indeed despite the showery weather, spirits were quite high. Thanks to Monica and Peter too for their lovely warm welcome on wedding day.

All in all it was a great start to wedding day and Sarah was such a beautiful bride ….she looked awesome in her dress. Flowers were by Breda in Athenry Flower Shop and totally complimented the beautiful Sarah.

Wedding Ceremony Lackagh Church Co Galway

I made the short spin over the church and hooked up with the very laid back Fergal and his groomsmen Kieran, Gearóid, Eamonn and Killian. Fergal was actually the most laid back and composed of the five men…hyper would be a good word to use describing the other bunch of guys lol!
We didn’t have to delay too long before the punctual Sarah arrived.

The church looked awesome and the ceremony was beautiful. There were two occasions during Sarah and Fergal’s wedding that would bring some dry dust into your throat…ahem, you know what I mean. After holy communion, Sarah got up and sang a song to her new husband…..a few images and words below on same.

The weather was blustery and showery on February 1st with the result that we used the beautiful church and it’s lovely decor for some bridal and family portraits after the ceremony. Lackagh Church has just undergone a renovation and it’s now a wonderful spot for some photos…well done to all concerned.

After the ceremony, we were to make the journey to the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon…..but Sarah and Fergal first made a visit to Abbeyknockmoy nursing home to visit Sarah’s Grandmother Lizzie. I found this visit overwhelming and indeed worthy of a blog by itself so you’ll find some words and images on this link

Abbey Hotel Roscommon Wedding Reception

With over 11 years of wedding photography, this was the first time I was shooting in the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon. Due to the visit to the nursing home as well as the spin from Lackagh, we didn’t delay too long before shooting our bridal portraits at the hotel.
There was some winter sunshine just before dusk so we used the front of the hotel to show this off as best and as promptly as we could before allowing the bridal party back into the warmth of the hotel to enjoy the company of their family and friends.

The function room looked amazing and it was obvious that Claire Kilcarr from I Do Candle Lighting had applied her magic here. Talking of magic, Sarah had a wonderful Disney/Magical vibe going on in the function room and her table plan in particular was something else to look at!

Guests relaxed in the hotel and there was a happy mood too when Ireland beat Scotland in the 6 Nations…..all in all, great vibes for a great wedding.

Sarah and Fergal’s wedding cake was brilliant and very personalized…well done to Molly Bakery in Roscommon on same.

The speeches were funny and entertaining and after same, thanks to the wonderful Sarah and Fergal for coming out to the front of the hotel for a hand full more images. I enjoyed our time and banter here and they were both such a treat to deal with

Finally, we retired to the function and danced the night away to the brilliant “Double Decker” wedding band.
Thanks so much Sarah and Fergal for trusting me with your wedding photography. I enjoyed your company and your disposition on wedding day and I wish you both the very best until we cross paths again.

Some photos of the day below and a photo slideshow can be viewed at the bottom of the page.

Loved this part of the ceremony. Sarah is a briallint singer and indeed no stranger to singing at weddings. What Fergal didn’t know was that she was going to sing at their wedding. After Holy Communion, Fergal looked slightly perplexed when Sarah got up from her chair and walked over to her ready and waiting keyboard. You can see him glancing back at the bridesmaids with the “what the hell is going on?” kinda look. Sarah sang “bless the broken road” which was truly amazing. You could have heard a pin drop during same…and there was a few sniffles. Seeing a beautiful lady in a white dress singing these lyrics to her new husband was quite a moving thing to witness

“I set out on a narrow way many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn’t see how every sign pointed straight to youThat every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart, they were like Northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
Yes, He didI think about the years I spent just passin’ through
I’d like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You’ve been there, you understand
It’s all part of a grander plan that is coming trueEvery long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my… “
