Michelle and John’s wedding recently took place in Ballighadereen Co Mayo (…not Co Roscommon!!!) followed by a reception in the Knockranny House Hotel, Westport.
Michelle got in touch with me last year shortly after she got engaged to John on the top of Croagh Patrick……her wedding reception was going to take place in Knockranny House Hotel which boasts splendid views of same so indeed Croagh Patrick was playing a strong role in Michelle’s wedded life! I had covered some of Michelle’s friends weddings, and we spoke at length over the phone prior to the big day so we were all singing from the same hymn sheet come wedding day!

Calling to Michelle on wedding morning, it was great to bump into the familiar faces of Caroline Coyne who was looking after make up, and the excellent Carrie Buchanan who was looking after all things hair related!
Michelle’s home is in Mayo I’m told, just outside Ballighadereen and she was accompanied by her bridesmaids Sandra (also her sister) and Lorraine who were troopers on wedding day….good people to have around you on such a big day! John Murphy from Avalon Video was looking after Video requirements…..indeed Michelle and John had great suppliers booked for their big day!
Michelle’s Fiancé John was getting ready close to Michelle on wedding morning and I took a brief spin down to them while Michelle was getting ready. One thing I’ve learned in my years of wedding photography is that the lads aren’t as receptive to having their photos taken as the ladies, and with that I said hello and goodbye in the one breadth when calling to them lol! I left them in peace and caught up John and his groomsmen Niall and Mike at the church just before the ceremony.
Calling back to Michelle and seeing her in her dress, she looked truly amazing! Michelle was in a super “headspace” on wedding day so not alone did she look class, I think she felt that way too and this helps me immensely capturing happy out relaxed people on their big day.
Michelle arrived punctually for her ceremony and thankfully there were no delays as we had to make the spin to Knockranny Hotel in Westport. Before we hit the road however, Michelle and John had planned some hydration and nutrition for their guests via the Get Grounded Coffee Cart…a delight to get a couple of the bespoke snacks before our journey! One other thing that was slightly different for Michelle and John was not having a “receiving line” after the ceremony….rather they let their guests exit the church and go straight to the Coffee and buns while they looked after their family portraits….I think this was a “win win” for all concerned!
We stopped at the Museum of Country life for some photos en route to Knockranny, and I really enjoyed the craic and banter that we had here! Everyone in good form…in particular the one liners coming form Mike & Niall.

When we arrived in Knockranny, we had to go out and ensure that we captued a couple of images with Croagh patrick in the background….the place where this journey had started for Michelle and John and their engagement.
After the meal, Nicola McGuire and the Cosmonauts ensure there was a full dance floor and DJ Aidan Connaughton brought the music into the early hours of the morning!
I thoroughly enjoyed your wedding day Michelle and John and grateful that you both trusted me for same! Please God we’ll cross paths again in the near future…until then, mind yourselves!!
