Wedding morning in Loughrea Co Galway

Niamh and Shane were married on the most perfect day in the Clayton Hotel Galway.
Some of my recent weddings have been pretty miserable from a weather point of view…this wasn’t one of them.
Niamh was a bridesmaid at her friend Edel’s wedding a couple of years ago. I was the photographer at same and we had a great day so I was delighted Niamh reached out after getting engaged to Shane.
I was pretty relaxed calling to Niamh on wedding morning. The fact that we worked together and indeed had been in communication coming up to wedding day, we were all singing from the same hymn sheet. Sometimes, when I haven’t met couples prior to their big day, there’s a period on wedding morning where you have to try and build some trust and a relationship…and let them know that your not a photographer that goes barking orders at everyone…thankfully no energy wasted on this in Niamh’s home.
Lisa, Aisling and Edel (returning the favour) were Niamh’s bridesmaids and the excellent Ann-Marie Fahy was looking after all things Make Up (ironically we had just crossed paths the previous week too). Wedding preparations went lovely and smooth on wedding morning and we had everyone ready in good time.
The wedding was booked for the Loughrea Cathedral, a church I love working in. On occasion, ceremonies take place at 2pm there…which puts you on the back foot as far as getting to the hotel for the meal. Luckily, we had a 1.30 kick off and with Niamh being punctual, we were off to a great start.

St Brendan’s Cathedral Loughrea

Shane and his groomsmen James, Martin and Caimin were in good form at the church and indeed allowed me to run off some images with them as soon as I arrived before the punctual Niamh arrived quickly afterward. Being a musician, I’d imagine Shane would have looked after this side of the wedding planning. His choice was simply excellent.

After the ceremony, we availed of the summer sunshine and the wonderful gardens of the cathedral for some Family Portraits. With the place looking amazing and in full bloom, we shot some images too with the bridesmaids and groomsmen before letting them back to the Clayton Hotel. Niamh and Shane made one last short spin to the lake in Loughrea where we grabbed some more images. It was truly delightful here…everyone enjoying the summer sunshine and indeed some of the swans coming over for a look at the beautiful bride and groom.

Wedding Reception the Clayton Hotel Galway

Our final port of call was the excellent Clayton Hotel…Karina is the wedding co-coordinator and makes it super easy for wedding suppliers working there. She’s a sincere and genuine person and I love working with her. Niamh and Shane had plenty of time to relax with their friends, before being called up for a lovely meal. Entertainment was supplied by Hot Fuss and they had the dance floor hopping!

Thanks Niamh and Shane for being two classy and approachable people. I feel I could have chin wagged with you about everything and anything on your wedding day, a sign of how happy and relaxed you both were. Your totally suited to your profession Niamh…I’d imagine your pupils love whose teaching them!
Please God we’ll cross paths in the near future guys, and until then, mind yourselves!
