Breda and Michael's wedding in the Raheen Woods Hotel Athenry Co Galway
Breda and Michael were recently married in St Mary’s Church Headford. Unfortunately it was a damp day and the outdoor photo opportunities were few and far between, but that didn’t prevent them from enjoying themselves and being great people to be with!
Headford weddings are great for me, it’s where I live and no long journey required on wedding morning. So about 3 minutes after hopping in my car, I’m at Breda’s preparations and meeting the jolly bridal party.
Anne Marie Fahy was responsible for make up and Lorraine Donoghue looked after all things hair related! I’m always preaching that things can turn messy on wedding morning if we run late. Your on the ‘hind foot and always playing catch up…not the ideal way to enjoy your wedding day. Fair pay to the two ladies though, top job as always!
Breda is a dote of a lady…a good person and exceptionally easy to chat with. The fact that she was relaxed, everyone else feeds of that positive energy and this is one of the many reasons why the day was so enjoyable for me and John Murphy from Avalon Video who was on camera duty. Bridesmaids Kathleen, Rachel and Orlaith were super team players and very similar to Breda with their happy out nature!
After Bred’a preparations, the journey to St Mary’s Church Headford was all of 1 minute and another familar face to bump into was the excellent Dani from Art Of Blooming. As always, dani does amazing work and is such a positive presence too on any wedding day. Factor in the Brennan Sisters who looked after the wonderful music and you’ll see that Breda and Michael were well taken care of on wedding day.
Speaking of Michael, he was being looked after by his groomsmen Stephen, Liame and Andy. The had a quick hydration meeting in The Anglers Rest Hotel.
They’re good men and we had a lot of fun throughout the day. They were able to stroll from the Anglers to the church but unfortunately that rains arrived when they arrived at the church and for the most part, the remainder of the day was completed with roofs over our heads.
The ceremony is always a relaxed and informal affair with Fr Ray looking after matters…and not too also!
We did the family portraits in the church as well as some bridal photos with the bridesmaids and groomsmen before making the journey to the Raheen Woods Hotel for the wedding reception.
The plan was to let Breda and Michael relax with their family and friends when we arrived at the hotel. We use one of the corridors in the hotel if it’s raining outside for photos and it’s a nice spot for same too. When the bell was rung for the meal, that’s when we would take the bridal party for 20 minutes and get some photography done. Not long after we arrived however, it stopped raining for about 10 minutes. John Murphy and I were very reluctant to interrupt Breda and Michael mingling with their guests, butas this may be the only window of opportunity for outdoor photos on their wedding day (which it was), we asked them for 10 minutes outside. I was delighted with their enthusiastic response to our request and we ended up getting a handful of shots that I was quite happy with. Breda and Michael being two good and approachable people is what made this possible and you didn’t feel that you had to tip toe around them looking for favours….they knew these were their wedding photos and John and I are very grateful to their appreciation of same!
After the beautiful dinner, music was provided by the The Vows wedding band who ensured the floor was full with excellent music and indeed “dance offs”…a really great night with great energy.
Many thanks Breda and Michael for trusting me with the photography side of things. Please God we’ll cross paths in our hometown in the coming months!!
