Emma and Iain were recently married in Oughterard Co Galway with their wedding reception in the Galway Bay Hotel Salthill.

I photographed Emma’s brother’s wedding a couple of years ago and we would have first crossed paths at that. Fast forward to earlier this year and I sat down with Emma and Iain to discuss and plan their big day.

Emma is a nurse and for some reason I tend to get along very well with them. Two years ago I relied upon them heavily and for a week I observed how caring and how compassionate they can be. I think due to their working environment, they see things that give them gratitude for the simple things in life, and it’s possibly this that makes me really enjoy their company.

During our chat prior to the wedding, it was evident that Iain wasn’t to comfortable with the photography side of things, nor looking forward to. I tried as best as possible to re-assure him that it wouldn’t as difficult as he feared and that if he trusted me, we would have a good day and he may actually enjoy it.
Well, now post ceremony, I can declare he did!

The Emma that I met on wedding morning was the exact same Emma whose company I enjoyed during our meet up. A good person who doesn’t sweat the small stuff! Her home has truly the most majestic setting in Oughterard…overlooking the lake. Her parents Barbara and Matt have a beautiful home and we decided to come back there again after the ceremony for some photos as well as using the pier by the lake.

Fergal Nannery was looking after the video side of things for Emma and Iain, and we were both damn happy with Emma’s locations.

Their ceremony took place in the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Ougherard at 1.30. Given the drive back to the Galway Bay Hotel afterwards, we didn’t delay matters when it came to the family portraits Emma, Iain and the bridal party of bridesmaids Caroline, Aisling and Mary as well as groomsmen Pete, Jamey and James headed back to Emma’s home immediately afterwards.
We hydrated and enjoyed the view there and I think the banter that flowed during this period helped Iain and his buddies to relax and indeed enjoy the wedding day. I’m grateful to the bridesmaids and groomsmen for their time and positive energy there…it helped us get some nice footage.

We let the bridal party head back to the hotel before spending a few minutes Emma and Iain down by the lake. Iain was growing into his role for wedding photos and I really enjoyed the criac and banter with the two of them and Fergal on video. We headed off back to the Galway Bay for our final stop….. a hotel I love working in. Great staff that are team players and we all seem to sing from the same hymn sheet!

Thanks so much Emma and Iain for trusting me with your wedding photography. It was a great day and I enjoyed your company. Wedding album is being drafted up and I’ll be in touch regarding same shortly!
