Wedding Preparations in the Lodge At Ashford

Amanda and Daragh were recently married in The Lodge At Ashford in Cong Co Mayo.
Some may think it’s a favorite wedding venue because of the convenience of it being the nearest hotel to where I live…..but it’s much more than that. The Lodge and it’s surrounding areas are nothing short of majestic, and when you factor in the most amicable staff that you’ll come across in Rachel and Aoife, well it’s simply a great place to be on a wedding day….never mind a wedding day that had plenty of sunshine such as Amanda and Daragh’s.
I met them both earlier this year when they called to the studio for a chat regarding their big day and we finalized preparations the night before their wedding…..Daragh was showing a few signs of the occasion having an effect on him….but after a good nights sleep, I’m glad to say that with the help of his extremely jovial and bubbly groomsmen, he was in great form at Ballintubber Abbey the following morning…..thanks Dominick, Simon, Peter and Doug!

Before I got to the lads in Ballintubber, there was the matter of calling to Amanda and her bridesmaids Emma, Ciara, Jemma and Annie who were getting ready in Lisloughrey Lodge. The girls had a large spacious apartment where hair and make up were being taken care of and all without any fuss or drama. The girls were matching the lads with regards to “up for a bit of fun” and it’s always a pleasure to witness and capture this spirit on wedding days.

Ballintubber Abbey

Ballintubber Abbey matches the beauty of of the Lodge…steeped in character and history but it looked particularly beautiful on the morning of the wedding with the beautiful floral arrangements by Ardilaun Flowers.

Cong Mayo

After the ceremony, we grabbed some shots on the grounds of Ballintubber before heading back to Cong and make the most of the splendid weather. The Bridal party were a dream to work with…always in great spirits and enjoying the time we had on our own grabbing some pics.

We made the very short trip back to the Lodge where we finished off the last of the formal photos by getting the Family Portraits taken on the front lawn using the beautiful Lough Corrib as our background.

The speeches were everything that speeches should be at a wedding….very funny and entertaining with some love and affection thrown in also.
The place was alive shortly after the speeches with one of the most sought after wedding bands in Ireland, the Weightless astronauts…..a band I come across regularly and always have the dance floor full!

I’m aware that I regularly mention that I had a “great day” at weddings when I blog…..but I hope that those that I work with know that it’s a genuine feeling and saying. Amanda and Daragh (as well as their Bridal Party) were brilliant people to be around on their wedding day and I was very lucky to have a front row ticket to witness and record same on what truly was a great day.

Thanks lads for trusting in me and I hope we cross paths sometime soon again!
